M.Sc.

Tilak Patel graduated from the University of Toronto Mississauga in 2017. He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Environmental Science and is keen in learning just how complex environmental issues can be when examined closely. His research focus is looking at the biotic and abiotic factors contributing to phosphorus fluxes at the sediment-water interface in the streams of Southern Ontario. With phosphorus load reduction targets into Lake Erie being such a hot topic, knowledge of the conditions under which streams will behave as a source or sink of phosphorus will be of relevance. From his project, Tilak hopes to communicate the importance of studying stream sediments to be able to accurately estimate phosphorus loads entering the Great Lakes in projection models.
